Lance Owens graduated from the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg in 1986 with a degree in education. He followed that with earning a masters degree in Sports Medicine from the United States Sports Academy in Mobile, AL in 1988. After working in Moncks Corner, SC for 1 ½ years as an athletic trainer and wellness director at Palmetto Wellness and Fitness (currently Moncks Corner YMCA), Lance returned to school at the Medical University of South Carolina and graduated with a BS in Physical Therapy in 1991. Lance also earned a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University in 2001.
Lance started his career in Physical Therapy with the Human Performance and Rehabilitation Center, a division of Hughston Sports Medicine Institute, specializing in post-op orthopedic and sports rehabilitation. In late 1992, Lance returned to his hometown of Greer, SC where he took over as Clinic Manager of the Greer clinic of Vaughn, Buchanan & Shelley Physical Therapy (VBS). In 1994, he was named Sports Medicine Director for all 12 VBS location and in 1996 became a junior partner with VBS. After VBS was acquired by Matrix Rehabilitation in 2000, Lance was promoted to the position of District Manager of South Carolina overseeing operations of 17 offices throughout the state. Lance also spent a year working as Operations Manager and Consultant with ProActive/NovaCare in SC.
Throughout his career, Lance has gained extensive work experience in general post-op orthopedic rehab, functional spine rehab, foot and ankle rehab, sports medicine and industrial rehab. Lance worked 8 years as an athletic trainer for Greer High School and provided part-time coverage at North Greenville College. Lance also has worked briefly in home health and hospital inpatient care.
Lance is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), and is a member of the program committee for the South Carolina NATA. Lance also lectures for the South Carolina APTA, South Carolina NATA, and Greenville Technical College on rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. Lance is also a Titleist Performance Instutute (TPI) Certified Golf Instructor Medical Professional.
Lance brings his experience and energy to the practice of Sports Spine & Industrial Physical Therapy as a full partner. Lance’s primary location of practice will be the Greer, SC clinic, however he also practices out of the Simpsonville location.
